CEILING: The lower level of a cloud layer, measured in hundreds of feet above the ocean surface. Example: an overcast cloud layer with the bottom of the clouds at 400 feet above the surface would be a 400 foot CEILING.

CERTIFICATION: A description of a ship's equipment needed to conduct flight operations.

CLASS: The services your ship can provide a helicopter.

DAY: The period between sunrise and sunset

LEVELS: Shorthand for Certification status regarding the weather

LEVEL I: Equipment can operate Day & Night under Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC)

LEVEL II: Equipment can operate Day & Night under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC)

LEVEL III: Equipment can operate Day only under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC)

NIGHT: The period between sunset and sunrise

VISIBILITY: the distance you can see laterally measured in statute miles. Example: if you can see objects toward the horizon that are four statute miles away, your flight visibility is 4 miles. Fog, rain, snow, or smoke can reduce flight VISIBILITY.
