Vapor Lock
Vapor Locks are also called Fermentation Locks and Air Locks. This will allow gases from fermentation to escape so that nothing explodes, injures anyone or causes a mess. The vapor lock also protects the mead from bacteria getting in and ruining it. Vapor Locks come in two styles, Cylinder and S-shaped. |

This is a Cylinder style vapor lock. Water and a disinfectant are poured in the outer cylinder about a third full, after the white cap is removed. This provides a barrier between the outside air and the mead in the carboy. | This is a S-shaped style vapor lock. Water and a disinfectant are poured in up to the middle of the second sphere, after the red cap is removed. This provides a barrier between the outside air and the mead in the carboy. |
