The 40th Year Reunion of The USCGA Idlers

The event is now a fading memory. To those Idlers who graced the stage with their presence, a heartfelt and humble word of gratitude for your indulgence and sincere efforts in making this event more incredible than anything I could have imagined.

Without your presence, the event would never have happened. I believe most of you had fun, judging from many of the comments. I will continue to help keep us all in touch through infrequent mailings and the web site.

Please return the envelope when you can. I humbly request the following:

I would also like to make another plug for donations to help Dr. Newton pay for an "Idlers Only" recording. He's looking at several sources of funds, and I think it would be nice to have the phrase "This CD made possible by the generous donations of the following Idlers Alumni:" in the liner notes somewhere. I will plug this to the rest of the Idlers Alums in the next Newsletter.

We (I) spent $5404.04, collected $4192, and have another $960 in merchandise left after this event. That leaves the bills $252.04 short. Everyone's share is $6.82 - pay up. Just kidding! The main culprits are the guys I planned for who said they would show and then cancelled after I had numbers set. I'll do it better 'next time'. I may even spring for lemons.

But seriously, if you'd like to help bail me out (I.E. if you think you had an extra $6.82 or more worth of fun this weekend), or wish to purchase some of the extra shirts or mugs before I move to Atlantic City, let me know. There are 3 Medium Shirts, 2 L's, 7 XL's and one XXL (tall) left, and plenty of mugs.

Dr. Newton assures me the pins will be in soon, and they will be mailed out with the videotapes.

I have been speechless less times in my life than I have fingers. Once was Friday, another was Saturday. Someone mentioned the idea that the Banquet Friday night was the retirement dinner Don Janse never got when he left CGA in the 80's. Someone else mentioned that Don Janse was on the verge of tears all weekend. To have had a small part in such a moving tribute to a man who gave so much to us all, I am speechless once again. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for validating and realizing my dream of bringing the Idlers together once again. Brothers in Song, Sing On!
