Here we are, cruising Penobscot Bay, Maine aboard the Schooner Timberwind.

[Michelle & Ed]

Michelle grew up around boats, and Edward chose a career working on, around, and over the waters. So, what better place for the two of them to get engaged but on a cruise? Not just any cruise, mind you, but one aboard the Schooner Timberwind, a two-masted schooner that had once served as the Portland, Maine harbor pilot boat. Until 1969 the Timberwind ferried pilots to and from the entrance to the harbor until being replaced by a propeller driven vessel. Timberwind still cruises powered by wind only, and the fare, company and atmosphere are unequalled anywhere.

Ed had hoped to be under full sail on a sunny day, then ask Michelle the question on the fo'c'sle right after breakfast. Instead, it rained for the entire cruise. So on her birthday, Michelle was presented with a leather flight jacket instead. Reaching into the pocket, she discovered a small maroon box holding The Rings. Ed had no choice but to ask her if she would be "his bride", and Michelle said yes.

Many thanks to Captain Rick Miles and the crew of the Timberwind who were part of our special weekend and who have offered us a repeat cruise 'on them' as a wedding present.
