HH-65 conducting VERTREP

A ship certified to Class 4 has a Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP) area. Hover heights must be in excess of 5 feet.

A ship certified to Class 5 has a Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP) area. Hover heights must be in excess of 15 feet.

That's really it. Most of the time, smaller helicopters will be certified for Class 4 operations. Larger helicopters have to hover a little higher above the flight deck, and will only be certified for Class 5 operations.

This chart should help you keep the Cargo Services Classes sorted out:

Class 4 & 5 (Cargo Services)
Class 4
Best
VERTREP, 5 feet & above
Class 5
Good
VERTREP, 15 feet & above
