Time Management Fixes for Motivation Gaps
Motivation Suggestions:
- Make a poster, flyer or send out emails, highlighting how and why different tasks are meaningful to the company.
- Participate in completion of tasks with employees, to lead by example, so employees will know that the task is worthy enough for management to be completing.
- Consult with employees to determine if they believe that they can complete assigned tasks and cooperatively establish a realistic time frame to accomplish the task.
- Assign each employee a small, easy to accomplish task. Praise them when they complete the task. Tell other personnel how well that employee performed. Then assign them another task with slightly more responsibility. Tell them that this task is more complex, but you are assigning to them because of their success with the last task, and you think they are “just the right person” for the job.
- Seek input from employees when developing the task list. Tell them what the deadlines are, and ask them to help determine how to accomplish the goal, and assign them their self-appointed tasks. In other words, make the employees part of the solution.
- Send periodic surveys to your employees asking them to sequence their assigned tasks by order of importance. Use the information to develop individual task lists, or to counsel employees on how the company’s needs are different from their needs.
