Title: Developing Technical Training
Author: Ruth Colvin Clark
APA Citation: Clark, R (1999). Developing technical training (2nd ed.). Silver Spring, MD: International Society for Performance Improvement.
Summary: The goal of this Second Edition of Developing Technical Training is the same as it was ten years ago: to provide a structured research-based methodology to the development of instructional materials that most effectively convert information to the knowledge for delivery via workbook for classroom training and via computer for technological delivery.
My Comments: This is a good book for scaffolding a technical lesson. The images of technology are necessarily dated, but once you get beyond that, the examples show a great implementation of the content performance matrix (CPM). Figure 1-2 on page 11 is particularly valuable, as it relates the ADDIE phases of instructional design to the Stages of lesson development. Also valuable is the treatment of each part of the CPM: Facts, Concepts, Processes, Procedures, and Principles (either remember or apply).
