Its weird how life takes you down these lonely roads. As a 21 year old fourth class, I have the distinction of being one of the oldest guys in my class. Many times that means my classmates look to me for support when things go badly for them. But where do I turn? The Idlers have given me an outlet for my stress. I cant tell you how it feels to go to practice bummed out, then leave humming a song and feeling on top of the world. I have spent the last three years on my own, never reaching out for support of any kind, swimming against the stream of life and battling for every inch I got. Now that I am in this group, I just have to hum a bit from one of the songs, and it reminds me that there are 18 of us, all battling together to become better people and Coast Guard officers. Then it doesnt seem quite as lonely anymore, knowing that whatever the problem, there are 17 other people willing to help out however they can.

Nice to "read" from Deets -- Ben, are you out here somewhere? It was great seeing the Idlers in their springtime "romp" through Boston at Simmons'. Conducting the Ratlin' Bog was a true highlight, thank you all so much. I look forward to reading more later.

I read your comments about the Icebreakers starting their own page...well, OK. If there isn't one, we'll just have to make one. Because, this is a great way to keep up with old friends! Hi Doc! It's been several years and two + kids (#3 in July) since I last saw you! Hmm! Had any Lucky Dogs lately?

Although I am a bit disappointed. After all the toughening up that Jon gave him, I am suprised he stood for it. Hello Deets, Nick D. I will definitely try to catch the gig at the Gris in the fall. Has anybody heard from Rob Brown, Brett Alexander or Cam "Angry Penguin?" It would be great to know what they are up to. Everyone have a good, safe summer.

Amy, I had the Idlers in New Orleans over Spring Break and I hit the "Lucky Dogs" big time. It was not a pretty sight.

Darn lot of Idlers in the DelMarVa area. Mouse, Sweaty, you four, Burns, Peach, probably a whole slew from the '80's classes. The Ship's Company Shanteymen are down that way and do regular concerts according to the following schedule:

First Tuesday each month....

At Royal Mile Pub on Price Street in downtown Wheaton, Maryland. This is a shanty open jam session, cohosted
with another shanty group, "The Prize Crew". Starts about 8:00 pm and concludes between 10:30 and 11:00 pm;
informal and lots of fun. Pitch in with your nautical song!

Third Tuesday each month...

Busking in "Olde Towne" Alexandria. This is real informal and provides an opportunity for all to join in chorus.

Their home page is at http://www.mindspring.com/~pp001589/shipsco.htm, so check 'em out, and go to a few gigs. Maybe they'll invite the active Idlers for a sing.

I live a tough life. =) Anyways, I hope this year is going well, and I want to hear some input from the USO Dinner. How was it this year? Did anyone talk to Heather while they were there? If any one plans to go out to Hawaii or is out on the West Coast, drop me a line (808)541-2400. I'll be coming East for Christmas, New Year's and then DCA school. (Feb-Mar) in Newport.
