Our current quartet went out to Cleveland this past weekend (with financial support from the class of '94) to perform for Alo and his friends and relatives at home as well as other patients at his rehab center. Alo was in really good spirits and performed all the songs with our quartet and also sang his old solo "In The Bath". It was an extremely moving, however, rewarding experience for all of us. Alo continues to be paralyzed from the chest down, but has good movement in his arms. He extends his sincere thanks to the class of '94 for enabling this performance trip to take place. Fair winds & following seas to Don Janse. It was an honor to have met him at the reunion.
I'm two weeks into law school at Case Western Reserve University here in Cleveland. I'm enjoying it, actually (I had my doubts). I've got a 45-minute commute, but my new wheelchair-ready minivan makes the drive tolerable. Y'know, they said driving with hand controls would be difficult to learn, but if you ask me it's very much like shiphandling -- really a minor adjustment for this former "black-hull throttle monkey." Thanks, Uncle Sam!
My classmates are smart, articulate folk ... although the 22-year-olds are beginning to look like kids to me. This is gonna be a busy 3 years, but at least there are three other current or former coasties at the school to hang around and talk shop with. Now, if I can just get a date with one of the dozen or so beautiful single women in my class ...
Still Rollin' ...
